Dream Job by Zombiesmile Dream Job by Zombiesmile
Being a Comic Artist  is a tough life. :C

♥ Please Read ♥
If you'd like more mini comics more often, please check out my :star:PATREON page:star: and support me! Even $1 a month would help me out. :')
If I reach my goal, I will start working on a fixed schedule.
You can get lots of little goodies and everyone would benefit from this since my comics will remain free and available online.

Thanks to everyone for all your support all these years, it really means the world to me!

~Mikiko

PS: as always, please don't reupload my work without permission.

I am that way myself, except I work an eight hour shift at a label factory, leaving me barely even enough time to work on my web comic series.

How did you become a comic artist? Did you go to an art school? Where did you move to get a job?

Aww

To the worried comments below from those studying the arts....I'm sure you'll find that with any dream job, it will be a lot more hard work, maybe a lot more mundane, and maybe not so well paid, than you thought. You still wouldn't give it up though if it's your dream!

I now believe that it's the minority, my brother is an artist and has had a lot of health problems. I've seen a couple of artists so far expressing themselves (as drawing form) being worn out or sometimes in shackles. It's a lot of competition and stress, well from what I've been hearing from my brother lol. but it's like that for every job, just a lil surprised that an artist gets this kind of treatment

well, this its more like a hobby soo Deal With It Deal With It Cupcake Chica is a Boss (Chat Icon) (most artist should have a realwork too :/, atleast i dont ask for then to be full time XD)

So all the movie, film, comic, game artists all should get a 'real job'? Without artists working full time, you'd have zero entertainment. no one would design phones, ads, shows, clothing, interiors, book covers.
Art is highly important in today's society. To claim it's 'just a hobby' and devalueing it completely ignorant.

As you said, those are jobs, but does she have anything more than the money coming from patreon/commisions?, if she doesnt, its more like a sideway mode for profits, then she needs to find a work where she can use her studies or something, did she study graphical design?

Why no complete a porfolio and join any compay, or recruit some programers from her fans and/or irl friends to complete a cute game by herself?(something in the lines of "Super flying pancake cat!, giving love to the whole world throught food!") everyone would get a cut of the profits equal to their work (and she could even get a complete porfolio for game desing) maybe all she need to do its to join an artgroup irl, print some of her drawings and go "hipster hunting" someone new in the scene will love her art :D, or learn some new awesome way to traslate her drawings into huge traditional ones and go riverside to sell it to turist for example :)

'she' is me, and yes, I do. I worked for Nintendo, Wacom and German TV. And no, I did not study any of it.
If I 'joined a company' as you say, I would be forced to stop making free comics due to time restraints.

Your world view is very naive. Once you move out and your mommy doesn't cook and clean for you, you will see that the world works in very different ways than you had thought.

Yet, you should really get to do something in those lines, because the DA and patreon gona get overpopulated, the market will be destroyed and all those things will be valuated as nothing, being dark about the world wont help, and i already knows it, i have seen many art teachers living in holes in the wall (small appartments) yet, if you doesnt want to join a company start you own, i dont know them, but i wouldt preasure you about doing free stuff, i just say "if this dont make a living for you, move on, this its more like a hobby then"

There are digital artist that have completed their living with the help of commisions and that, but then there are the most of then are almost always calling for emergency comissions due living issues, tell me the patreon and the commisions gives you for a living? can say what else you do to get into a living? if no, i can understand, thats pretty personal :iconowosadplz: but my question its still the same, why cant work in anything else? (if you say freetime for art, then i ask "why no publish another comic? thats maybe help in CONs or a web comic, that would help even more D:!")

artist is a full time job. how long do u think it takes to make a disney movie. or a adventure time episode. each episode takes 9 month¨s to complete. even just book over artist is a ful time job. u dont just trow shit on a book. u work and use time on it
yes for me forecsamble its a hobby and i do have a freetime job. but im only 15.

and the art teachers at my school live in houses and nice arpartments,
u woulden have anything eccept live action film and picture from a camera to use if u dident have artists.

its just as hard as every job out there.

im not trying to cut u down on this but its importent u understand

its like u dont just go to a builder or a teacher and said its just a hobby.

des her art and her pareon provide for her? no rigt its not enough... thenwhy not redirect her talent tosomething she can get enough money? did you read when i mentioned she could work on a vgame company right, thats something like the examplesyou guys showed,if a builder its disegning buildings he will never build or that will not recieve any payment of it (exept when its for charity) id tell himthat just a hobby, its like a doctor writing about their work in a medical forum, hey wontrecieve any forofdirect payment from it, i could tell them that writing there aboutmedicine, its juust a hoooooooby.....

look athose guys who creates alternatehiistory settings here on da, they neither recieve anyform of payment off it,exept when they get ful timein it and write a book, pblishing it, and getting paid :)

Som actully have a show on tv. Or a real comic ppl can buy. Its like starting ur own company.

My mother started her own shop. Does that mean that we only live of charity at my home ?

No she dosent work for a company (sometimes she does) but "we" pay her for the good work.

If she stars making comics and drawings less ofen and get a job at a supermarked foreksamle. She would lose that income. Pll woulden pay her for this. So its not a hobby.

And if ur on da just going around abd telling ppl thay. I think u should go find a job yourself

I think it's alright as long as you're doing what you love. I'd rather be poor and have a job I love than be rich and have a job I hate.
