how did you transition from black lines, to a barely there outline? its something i need to work on, and i would be greatul for some tips.

I just didn't use any line art in the second one. I painted over a sketch and at the very end, retraced only bits that seemed to need more contrast.
It was an expeiment really, I usually always work with lines.

Your technique has pretty much improved in every single field since then. Congratulations!

Looking at the two images, though, I miss the pop and contrast that the old black lines gave. More or less, the new one couldn't hurt from a little contrast-up. Obv. new one is awesome and better, but just a thought.

I know this is like months old, I just saw it in someone's favs today, so deal.
